Mýflug
Mýflug air has been offering sightseeing flights from Mývatn airport over northern Iceland since 1985. Get another perspective on Icelands nature by looking at it from above.
Earth Lagoon
Drawing on a centuries-old tradition, Mývatn Nature Baths offer bathers a completely natural experience that begins with a relaxing dip amidst clouds of steam rising up from a fissure deep in the Earth’s surface, and ends with a luxurious swim in a pool of geothermal water drawn from depths of up to 2.500 meters.
Hverir – Mud pots
At this area, also known as Hverir, you will see many smoking fumaroles and boiling mud pots, surrounded by sulphur crystals of many different colours. This sulphur gives the area an overwhelming smell of egg.
Eldey Restaurant
Hotel Laxá has an on-site restaurant, Eldey, the name is comes from one of the islands of Lake Mývatn. Good food and drink, good service and beautiful surroundings create an unforgettable evening.
Hverfjall
Hverfjall is 396 meter (1,300 ft) high tephra explosion crater. It is located near the eastern shore of Lake Myvatn in North Iceland. Resembling a black ash cone of mammoth proportions, you can walk up the steep slopes and around the crater’s rim for otherworldly and awesome view of the surrounding landscape
Dimmuborgir
Dimmuborgir is a magnificent lava landscape with extraordinary formations, columns, caves, and arches created by the flow of a lava lake over a marshy area some 2300 years ago.
Höfði – Lava formations
Höfði is a beautiful recreational area on the east shore of the Lake Mývatn. Thousands, maybe dozen of thousand trees and the Kálfastrandavogar lava pillars makes this area so unique in Iceland.
Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters
The biggest pseudocraters in Iceland are the Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters in the Mývatn area in North-Iceland. They are amongst the many extraordinary sights of the Mývatn area, and one of the most interesting natural phenomena in Iceland.
Sigurgeir’s Bird Museum - Mývatn
The museum has about 330 stuffed birds and about 500 eggs. The gallery has 280 birds and 300 eggs on display. The museum has all Icelandic breeding birds except 2.
Vogafjós
At Vogafjós, there is a strong emphasis on honoring old traditions as well as using produce from the farm itself and the surrounding area.
