Hraunbrún – Hostel

Sleep on the edge of a lava field.

You have probably stayed in hostels all over the world, but you have never stayed in a hostel like this. Hraunbrún – the name of our hostel – means lava edge. Because you basically sleep right on the edge of Mývatn’s lava field.

It’s a no fuss kind of hostel: You just roll out your own sleeping bag (or rent duvet, pillow and linen as a self service option) in one of our 14 rooms equipped with two bunk beds and make yourself at home in the common kitchen and dining room.

Do we need to mention that the view of the lava field is amazing from the dining room?

Bringing the whole gang to Iceland?

Look no further than to one of the family rooms of Hraunbrún that accommodates 4-5 persons on bunk beds – single and small doubles.

Kytrur – Mini cottages

Kytrur – the wooden tent for two.

Stay dry and warm without missing the feeling of being right in the middle of nature. Kytrur is basically a wooden tent with a warm bed and a hook for your clothes. That’s it. Simple yet comfortable.

Kytrur is placed right on the lava’s edge and offer a private porch – and the option to overlook the wilderness from your bed. The cabins share all facilities with the camping site – electricity, bathroom facilities and a large kitchen tent and the small store nearby. We offer duvet, pillow and linen – and make the beds for you, if you include linen.

Cottages

The family choice next to the lake.

The two cottages on the hills overlooking the lake are spaceious and offer both privacy and a stunning view. The perfect choice for the family or small group – also for longer stays.

The heart of the cottage is a large living room with big windows and direct exit to a covered porch inviting to a family barbecue. Each cottage also offers two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and an extra bed loft. It’s Nordic wooden luxury on the edge of the wild – allowing the kids to go on their own adventures in a safe and comfy place. Rent the cottages with or without linen. We make the beds for you, if you include linen.

Camping

Sleep in the Icelandic wild.

You won’t find any fixed seating here. We are devoted to Icelandic nature, so our campsite concept is as simple as possible: Find a spot you like, and settle in with your tent or caravan. No marked spots, no restrictions. Just you and your travel mates in the middle of a nature reserve. Sounds good right?

We figured you might need a few amenities though, so we have made sure that you have electricity at hand as well as bathroom facilities and a large kitchen tent. And if you are out of essential snacks or drinks, we have a small selection at the reception.

No booking is needed at the campsite! We always have space for you.

Andabyggð – Bed and breakfast

Bed & Breakfast among the ducks.

Yes, that is the name of our Bed & Breakfast accommodation – an homage to the rich and unique composition of duck species roaming Lake Mývatn. Did you know that the Barrow’s Goldeneye breeds in no ther place in Europe?

Duck-fan or not, make yourself at home at comfortable Andabyggð in one of our double rooms with private bathroom and access to shared living room, kitchen and BBQ area. Breakfast is included, obviously. And may we recommend, on sunny days, that you enjoy your breakfast and morning coffee outside with the beautiful view of the lavafield. It is the perfect start to a new adventure day, if you ask us.
